Security Issues in Emerging High Speed Networks

چکیده
There is a growing interest in the development of broadband services and networks for commercial use in both local area and wide area networks. In particular, connectionless Switched Multilmegabit Data Service (SMDS) and connection-oriented Frame Relay based broadband services are beginning to be o ered by a number of major operators in the US and Europe. This paper considers the issues that need to be addressed in the design of security services for such high speed networks. First the relevant characteristics of broadband network interfaces are discussed, some of the existing security protocols for TCP/IP and OSI networks are reviewed, and their suitability for providing security in broadband networks assessed. Then the developed arguments are applied to design security services for the connection-oriented Frame Relay networks. An earlier paper [3] considered the development of security services for the connectionless SMDS.

The COST Action 253 is aiming to study high speed terrestrial (based on ATM technology) networks interconnected by non-GEO satellite constellations. The performance of these networks depends very much on the successful characterization and estimation of offered services and traffic loading, as well as on efficient management techniques for the integrated, terrestrial and space system. In the co...

Different applications have different security requirements for data privacy, data integrity, and authentication. Encryption is one technique that addresses these requirements. Encryption hardware, designed for use in high-speed communications networks; can satis& a wide variety of security requirements if that hardware is key-agile, robustness-agile and algorithm-agile. Hence, multiply-agile e...

Vehicular Ad-Hoc Networks can enhance road safety and enable drivers to avoid different threats. Safety applications, mobile commerce, and other information services are among different available services that are affected by dynamic topology, vehicle’s speed and node misbehaving. Dynamic topology makes the route unstable and unreliable. So, improving the throughput and performance of VANET thr...
متن کاملAn Overview of Group Key Management Issues in IEEE 802.16e Networks
The computer industry has defined the IEEE 802.16 family of standards that will enable mobile devices to access a broadband network as an alternative to digital subscriber line technology. As the mobile devices join and leave a network, security measures must be taken to ensure the safety of the network against unauthorized usage by encryption and group key management. IEEE 802.16e uses Multica...
